Interview with KomboKitten
It’s been awhile since I have interviewed a cosplayer that wasn’t participating a big compo such as the ECG or EC.
Let’s go to give some spotlights of the fantastic cosplayers around the world who doesn’t or don’t get the chance participate in these big compo’s ^___^
As this Month I’m focussing on South Africa why not interview someone from there. At the start of my research for cosplay in South Africa I found a cosplayer who was really kind to provide me alot of information for my research.
Let’s all give a hand to miss KomboKitten!
| Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourselves?
I believe in not doing things to others which I wouldn’t want done to myself and I have compassion + empathy for all life. I love gaming, martial arts, photographic artistry, dancing, music, anime, sewing, cosplay and thinking. Currently I am particularly interested in having fun with cosplay and gaining work experience as a spokesperson and/or model. I am the official South African I LOVE NERD GIRLS representative/reporter. Q: How old are you? I turned 23 on 4 June. Q: What attracts you to cosplay? The fact that it is a creative outlet for fan art and LOTS of fun! Q: What do you do outside of cosplay? I spend business hours working as the office administrator of a small factory. After hours when I am not working on costuming/cosplay I spend most of my other free time gaming or watching anime/series/movies. Q: How did you get into cosplay? It was just a natural thing for me to start doing having lots of free time after hours. Getting a sewing machine to help make my own costumes proved to be a valuable choice because sewing can be used elsewhere in life too. Q: When did you start cosplaying and how long for? I started taking it seriously since October 2011. Been going strong ever since then! Q: What has been your favourite cosplay? I can’t pick a favorite because all my costumes where like babies to me that I gave birth to lol! So far my Ling Xiaoyu is a favorite due to how comfortable it is and because I have such a great love for the character. (many times a costume is not very comfortable) Q: Most memorable moment whilst cosplaying? I can’t choose only one but memorable moments for me are when other fans of the character I am cosplaying recognises the character and if they compliment me on my cosplay that is extremely rewarding knowing that I do the character justice. Q: Have you had any cosplays go wrong/encountered problems whilst making cosplays? Hmm crafting and sewing is a learning process (for me at least) so along the way one is usually met with many hurdles to overcome. That is just a part of the process. I can’t recall any serious issues yet though. Q: Have you ever regretted cosplaying? No. No – it just depends what events I am aiming for. Q: Have you ever done group cosplay? If so how did you find that experience? Yes, group cosplay is my favorite!! Q: What cosplays are you planning? I have a female sub zero in the works right now for a local gaming event. I am also working on 3 special secret costumes for a big gaming expo in Johannesburg in October! Q: Do you have a dream cosplay? All my cosplays are from my dreams! Q: How are the professional photoshoots usually managed? Does the photographer have certain shots in mind and direct you or do they follow your visions of the scene? That depends on the photographer. It helps when the photographer knows the character too but otherwise it’s all just about having fun and trying to get some good shots in the element of the character and its source. Q: Do you have one piece of advice that you would give to cosplay newbie’s? Yes, please don’t neglect make up and remember to wear your wig cap when you use a wig! Q: Do you have an account with the website Cosplay.com/other social networking sites? Yes, my links are as follows: Blog: www.kombokitten.blogspot.com Public Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/ Deviant Art: http://kombokitten.deviantart. |
