Interview with Ako

Saturday 8 May 2010

Ako is one of the first french cosplayers I have been in contact with.
She is a very friendly girl. Very welcoming to new cosplayers.
Ofcourse her cosplays are very nicely made aswell.
If you happen to have the chance to go to a french convention don’t hesitate to say hi! ^__^
Today we have an interview with her so enjoy!

Q: When did you start cosplaying and how long for?Well, I started cosplaying three years ago, I think. It was not a special date so I don’t remember exactly but I wanted to make my own Yuna summoner costume and at that time I haven’t skills in sewing, so that took me long time…

Q: What attracts you to cosplay?

To make something by myself. I love when the outfit is going to come complete and looks like the original. I really love making costumes, is a relaxing thing most of the time. “Most of the time” cause there are some moments where it going me crazy. And I like doing act on stage too, bring character to life is a great moment.

Q: How did you get into anime and what lead you into cosplay?

Well, I always have watched anime when I was young but at that time I don’t know what anime was. The first anime I saw is probably Saint Seiya. I loved Versailles no bara and that’s a big part of my childhood heroin. And I’m still in love with this anime ^^

Q: What has been your favourite cosplay?

I’m not sure I have a favorite cosplay. It’s difficult to tell. But I love my Arashi’s costume cause I’m a big fan of Clamp, and especially X. For same reasons, Oruha is a dream came true. I also love cosplaying as Sheryl Nome cause it’s probably one of my favorite characters. In fact, I love something of all the costumes I made.

Q: Most memorable moment whilst cosplaying?

My most memorable moment was during Japan Expo 10th, I was cosplaying as Ada Wong from Resident Evil4 and I met the conceptors of the new game of this serie. Even if I’m not a big fan of the Darksides Chronicles, I was sooo impressed to meet Nogushi and Kawata. They came to me and congratulated me for my cosplay and they invited me to come with us in the Biohazard stand for promotional time with fan. I was very very impressed, so I didn’t remember it clearly XD But one of my best cosplaying award for sure !

Q: Have you had any cosplays go wrong/encountered problems whilst making cosplays?

I have some problems each time I make a new costume. I restart some parts many times. I’m very difficult with the result I want. I hate when I’m sewing and I’m sewing wrong parts togheter, so most of the time I redone this parts wich going wrong. But, for now, I never had a huge problem I can’t solved.

Q: Have you ever regretted cosplaying?

Sometimes, cause cosplaying is a very expensive pastime. When I’m thinking how much it will cost me, I think I will not make this costume, but I always end up doing it. Cause I’m a student I haven’t many money to put in it, so it’s a problem sometimes. But when I end a costume, when I wear it and go on stage with my work, finally it deserves it for all the happiness. =)

Q: Do your cosplays have a particular theme to them?

Not really. I choose my costume cause I like the design most of the time. So, I cosplay many characters from anime, manga, games, movies… Sometimes when I love a character especially, in case of Sheryl Nome, I make more costumes of her that I planned in the beginning.

Q: Have you ever done group cosplay? If so how did you find that experience?

I loooooove cosplaying in group, or in duo. It’s so cool to see characters togheter. It’s a really cool experience. The last in date is a photoshoot with a friend of mine as Lelouch when I’m cosplaying as C.C. from Code Geass. It’s so nice to do photos togheter, we played our characters and made some fanservice x3

Q: What cosplays are you planning?

Aww… Too many I can tell I think. But the immediate next costumes are C.C. for Japan Expo, Oruha and Reira. Luka megurine is planned for Chibi JE and maybe a Sakura Hime for September, I’m not sure about that.

Q: Do you have a dream cosplay?

In fact, I think, all my planned costumes are dream. The most important was Oruha, but for now, it’s in making so a dream in coming. Maybe Oscar from Versailles no bara, as I said, I’m a hugde fan of the serie and I absolutely want to make her one day.

Q: How are the professional photoshoots usually managed? Does the photographer have certain shots in mind and direct you or do they follow your visions of the scene?

Both of that. I have some pictures/posing I want to do most of the time. And I also ask to photographer what kind of posing he want that I do. Usually, they always ask me what is my character, which serie is and the feeling of him. So we talk during the shooting about the posing I can make and the atmosphere we can create. All the photographers that I met were very kind and that’s always a pleasure to work with them. I like posing, sometimes the pose that they want I do it’s a big stranger or incomfortably but it’s funny to do it !

Q: Do you have one piece of advice that you would give to cosplay newbies?

Well, try it ! Just try. Nothing is impossible. Don’t think “it’s too difficult for me” or “I can’t do that”, just try cause you will be surprised by your own result I think. Cosplay is a pastime so, don’t forget to the key is to have fun. Do not make this a war between people, please. And be applied and meticulous, details make a successful cosplay.
